Security tools are only effective in preventing threats if they are implemented and managed on a large scale. However, getting everyone in your organization to adopt these tools essentially depends on their ease of use. That's why G Suite has always sought to provide IT administrators with simpler tools to manage access, control devices, ensure compliance and protect data.
On 3/21/2018 Google announced over 20 updates to deepen and expand the security control Google Cloud customers have. Many of these features will be enabled by default for G Suite so you can be confident that your organization has the protections in place. And, even better, in most cases your users will not have to take any action at all. A more detailed explanation follows.
Protect your users and your organization with new advanced anti-phishing features.
We apply machine learning (ML) to billions of threat indicators and adapt our models to quickly identify what could be an incipient phishing attack. The information from these ML models helps us flag suspicious content. At the same time, updated security controls for phishing can be configured to automatically trigger Google's latest recommended defenses.
These new protections can perform the following actions:
- Automatically flag emails from untrusted senders with encrypted attachments or embedded scripts
- Send warnings regarding e-mails that attempt to forge employee names or that come from a domain that has a name very similar to yours
- Marking unauthenticated email to provide greater protection against spear phishing attacks
- Analyze images for phishing indicators and expand shortened URLs to expose malicious links
With the protections we have in place, more than 99.9% of Business Email Compromise (BEC) cases, such as the theft of an executive's identity to obtain confidential information, are automatically moved to the spam folder or flagged with abnormality warnings displayed to users.
