Google has added a layer of protection to Gmail for Android to protect users from malicious emails aimed at allowing hackers to access their private email. The company's anti-phishing feature will show users a warning when they click on a suspicious link in an email.

Users will see a message warning them of a suspected phishing attempt.

WHAT IS ANTI-PHISHING IN GMAIL?

For the uninitiated, phishing is the practice of sending malicious e-mails, which appear to be authentic from reputable companies, in order to induce them to reveal personal information such as passwords and credit card information.

The company admits in its press release that its system may not be perfect and may detect some emails, which may not be related to phishing, but at the very least, it would warn users about suspicious links.

"While not all affected emails will necessarily be dangerous, we recommend that you be very careful when clicking on links in messages you are unsure about. With this update, you will have another tool to make these kinds of decisions," the company said in its official post.

The update comes on the heels of a massive phishing attack, targeting users by sending an email, which forced them to open fraudulent Google documents. Likewise, users simply need to click on the "Open in Documents" button, which would redirect them to a non-Google address and the email would be sent to everyone in their contact list.
