[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the first part of our series on IT Security, we talked about its importance and how passwords can be stolen. The theft of them, would directly influence your business.
Today, we will discuss the solution. Creating secure passwords is simple, but you have to take the trouble to do it and not take it as an "unnecessary" practice because it can have serious consequences. Especially at the corporate level.
If your company has an IT department, you can consult them or send them these practices. If not, they will help you, as a user, to improve your security.
Now, the 3 main keys are that the password should be long (at least 12 characters), avoid personal information and create one password per application What else?
How to create secure passwords?
4-step guide
1: Select a phrase
Let's take an Argentinian saying: El burro delante para que no se espante. You could choose the first letter of each word and it would be: ebdpqnse
Important mention: do not select phrases that your close circle can guess.
2: Add special characters
These are symbols like # or !. You could add them at the beginning or at the end of the password.
Following our example we will use the exclamation mark: ebdpqnse!
3: Alternate upper and lower case letters
I included some letters in uppercase and some in lowercase. In our example the "B" and "D" will be uppercase. It would look like this: eBDpqnse!
4: I added numbers
For example, I converted the "e" to a 3 since they are similar: 3BDpqns3!
It looks like a complicated password, difficult to be cracked in an attack and very simple to remember if you remember the phrase.
Now that you have created your password, it is necessary to protect it.
Passwords should not be written on papers, documents or any place within reach of people.
In order not to forget them but to get more protection, you can use a password manager.
What is a password manager?
It is very similar to a shelf with folders, containing files with your passwords. Sorted by category and under a master key. This is how it works.
