[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This new feature is intended for all Google Workspace mail administrators who want to improve spam filters. Google automatically blocks 99.9% of spam and phishing messages.

As an administrator, you can protect incoming mail against phishing and malware. You can also choose what action to take depending on the type of threat detected. For example, you can choose to move suspicious content to the spam folder or leave it in your inbox with a warning. All security settings can be adapted for different users and computers using organizational units.

What actions are included in the advanced security settings?

  • External links and images: this allows you to identify links behind short URLs and linked images in order to search for malicious content. When the domain is not trusted, a warning may be displayed when clicking on its links.
  • Attachments: protection against suspicious attachments and scripts from untrusted senders.
  • Spoofing and authentication: protection against spoofing of a domain name, employee names, emails pretending to be from your domain and unauthenticated emails from any domain. How? A question mark is displayed next to the sender's name if the email is not authenticated. Phishing protection can be enabled for private groups or for all groups.

Practices to consider:

With the advanced configuration, it is possible:

  • Customize the security settings by checking some options. Unchecking all options disables all advanced security settings for the domain or organizational unit. In organizational units that require a high level of security and protection, enable all security options. This will prevent problems in the future
    .
  • Additional spam settings: Advanced security features take precedence over other spam settings you have previously activated. They work independently. For example, even if you have included a domain as a safe sender in the spam settings, the enhanced security features still apply.
  • Quarantine actions: when you select Quarantine for any of the advanced security settings, it applies only to incoming messages. This happens even when quarantine specifies actions to perform on outgoing messages. The whitelist setting will not override the Quarantine option.
  • Warning banners: Warning banners (yellow box) only appear on the Gmail web. Third-party applications do not display a warning banner.

Soon, we will be expanding our repertoire on security topics for administrators, stay tuned!
