The Gmail web UI is getting a visual update to bring it to Google Material Design.
Features available immediately:
- "Instant actions": perform one-click actions directly from your inbox.
- A new side panel (right), which allows you to access Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and other compatible products at the same time as Gmail.
- A new display density option that includes more information in the inbox, such as shortcuts with attachments.
- Snooze and Smart Reply graduate from Inbox to Gmail (Smart Trips and Smart Grouping will arrive later in 2018).
- "More mentions": in the newsroom, start typing "+" in the body of a message and add a person to the conversation.
- Offline support: this new offline feature replaces the Gmail Offline app for Chrome.
- A new contact card and the ability for administrators to customize contact card information.
Nearby features:
A new "confidential" mode.
- Push: recall incoming and outgoing mail to which you or a counterparty have not responded.
- Unsubscribing from care. An intelligent system will help users unsubscribe from mailing lists with which they do not normally interact.
- High priority notifications. A mobile-only feature that offers to reduce notifications (and notification interruptions) to only the most important ones.
Technician:
- Finally, the Gmail web UI runs on a new data layer. This change is intended to be mostly invisible to end users.
